 Cambridge Imaging Systems, a leading developer of digital archive management solutions, has completed the UK’s first digital contemporary dance archive.Created by Coventry University in collaboration with Siobhan Davies Dance, the archive has received major financial support from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.Comprising a mix of over 3000 searchable electronic records of moving images, stills and text relating to Siobhan Davies Dance works dating from 1977, this unique resource is accessible through a highly creative website.The archive includes full length films and dancer’s rehearsal ‘scratch tapes’, a large collection of still images taken by leading photographers and text based materials including performance programmes, posters, technical drawings and diaries.Ian Mottashed of Cambridge Imaging Systems said: “We were charged with creating a system that truly reflected the work of the company. Fortunately our Digital Asset Management System and its web component offer a great deal of flexibility in how the content can be delivered and the user experience shaped.” Professor Whatley said:“The video archives of Siobhan Davies Dance provide an excellent insight into the development of contemporary dance over the last 30 years or so. They are obviously valuable for students of dance but the new website is sharp, vibrant and attractive as well as being very accessible and we are confident it will involve a wider audience in this exciting art form.”
